Sunny NarzaryGitHub

Free, open-source editor extension

Your AI usage, in one sidebar.

AI Usage Sidebar brings Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor usage limits into one panel in VS Code and Cursor on macOS and Windows.

Illustrative view of the initial, opt-in sidebar: a Manage tools button and separate Enable rows for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. No account data is shown.

01 / Install

Pick your editor.

Open the AI Usage view and enable only the tools you choose.

Or install from the command linecode --install-extension sunnynarzary.ai-usage-sidebar

Each GitHub release also has a .vsix file you can install manually.

02 / Privacy & how it works

You choose what connects.

Each tool starts disabled. Consent is stored locally in the editor’s global extension state. The extension refreshes enabled tools only while its view is open.

Manage tools can revoke consent. Cursor IDE and cursor-agent have separate consent; changing sources asks again before reading the newly selected source.

Claude Code

On macOS, reads the Claude Code-credentials Keychain item and, when present, $CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR/.credentials.json and ~/.claude/.credentials.json, choosing the usable login with the later expiry. On Windows, reads the configured file, then the default file. Sends the access token only to GET https://api.anthropic.com/api/oauth/usage. It does not refresh or alter the login.

Codex

Starts the installed local Codex CLI, asks its app server for account/rateLimits/read, then stops the process tree. The CLI manages its own login and network activity. The extension does not read the Codex credential directly.

Cursor IDE default source

Reads cursorAuth/accessToken from Cursor’s User/globalStorage/state.vscdb at ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/User/globalStorage/state.vscdb on macOS or %APPDATA%\Cursor\User\globalStorage\state.vscdb on Windows. It sends the token to POST https://api2.cursor.sh/aiserver.v1.DashboardService/GetCurrentPeriodUsage and POST https://api2.cursor.sh/aiserver.v1.DashboardService/GetPlanInfo. The database read is read-only and WAL-aware when the editor supports node:sqlite; otherwise its main-file-only fallback refuses a nonempty WAL.

Cursor agent separate opt-in

On macOS, reads the cursor-access-token Keychain item and sends it to the same two Cursor endpoints above. Its Windows credential location is unknown, so this source reports unavailable on Windows. The extension never silently switches between IDE and cursor-agent accounts.

Direct to the vendors, never to the publisher.

Claude and Cursor credentials go only to the vendors that issued them through the fixed HTTPS requests above. The extension sends nothing to Sunny or another third party and does not copy credentials to another file, refresh them, or log them.

The usage endpoints and Cursor database key are undocumented. They may change, and accessing them may carry account or terms risk. AI Usage Sidebar is unofficial and is not affiliated with Anthropic, OpenAI, or Cursor.
